  • a European research centre funded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and associated with the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique/ French National Centre for Scientific Research); set up at the end of the Second World War following an agreement between the Universities of Paris and Oxford; recognised by the University of Oxford as an associated institution; mission is to contribute to Franco-British research in the fields of literature, humanities and social sciences; activities include: setting up research programmes in parallel with the CNRS, providing a base for holders of scholarships and research grants to further their academic work within the University's network, organising conferences and seminars, and providing accommodation for French academics visiting Oxford for research purposes
