- It has been established that the photoperiod is the main environmental cue which controls the seasonal pattern of reproductive activity in sheep and goats. Under normal seasonal fluctuation of daylength, rams exhibit significant variation in their reproductive performance. Their period of low performance coincides with deep anoestrum in ewes.
