- Homologous recombination between a DNA sequence in a chromosome and a newly introduced DNA sequence (gene targeting) allows the specific replacement of an endogenous gene by another gene. In practice, gene replacement has been mainly used to specifically inactivate a gene in the mouse. (Source : INRA)
