Nota
- Successful hatching of the embryo is a prerequisite for its implantation in the uterus. Failure of ZP rupture and subsequent impaired hatching account at least in part for the relatively low implantation rates of embryos resulting from IVF. This may be due to the loss of elasticity (hardening) of the ZP after in vitro culture and in vivo aging. This led to the adoption of assisted hatching techniques in which breaching of the ZP is performed to promote the natural process of hatching. Digestion by acidic Tyrode's solution is the most widely used technique even though it involves the use of a strong chemical agent. (Source : INRA)
