- Use for the vast compilation of Judaic Oral Law (200-500 A.D.), with rabbinical elucidations, elaborations and commentaries; accepted authority for Orthodox Jews everywhere; two divisions: Mishna, or text of the Oral Law (in Hebrew); and Gemara, a commentary on the Mishna, which it supplements (in Aramaic); both the Babylonian (Talmud balbi, q.v.) and the Palestinian (Talmud yerushalmi) schools produced Talmuds
