- [...]A direct electron accelerator [...] consists of a high voltage generator connected to an electron gun, an evacuated acceleration tube and a beam scanner. The electron stream emitted from the electron gun is injected into the accelerating tube, emerging as an intense beam. This is passed into a scan system which scans the beam back and forth before it emerges through a thin metal foil "window". (Source : INRA)
