Maidens' garlands
Definition
- Funeral mementos of young, unmarried women; carried in procession and/or placed on the coffin or, sometimes, on the grave; usually consisted of a wooden frame decorated with ribbons, flowers and rosettes; paper or parchment gauntlets were hung from the frame, with the deceased's name, age and year of death, and sometimes an epitaph inscribed on them
