Definition
- Single-string zitherlike chordophones with a slender, three-sided body made of thin boards tapering to the top, and a unique bridge, one of the feet of which does not rest on the belly of the instrument but is suspended a hairsbreadth above it, so that it drums rapidly against it when played; common 15th-mid 18th cs. [AAT]
