- Swift and powerful man-eating monsters with the head, eyes and ears of a man, with three rows of teeth in each jaw; the body of a lion; a tail with spines which could be shot like arrows and a poisonous sting at the end; and a voice like a blend of pipes and trumpets; said to roam the jungles of south Asia, but its origins seem to be Persian
