- Sliding rattles known in the Near East since the 3rd millennium BCE, consisting of a U- or lyre-shaped frame with a handle, fitted with loose-fitting rods or wires which jingle when shaken; small loose discs were often strung on the rods or wires to create additional sound [AAT]
