Définition
- Stations along caravan routes providing overnight accommodations and facilities for caravans and individuals and their animals; generally characterized by large central courtyards, a single entrance and, often, shops. Also use for less fortified urban Islamic structures providing lodging, storage, and commercial space for traveling merchants, as well as some facilities for trading transactions [AAT, alt.]
