Definition
- A proposed family of bacteria belonging to the alpha-2 subgroup of PROTEOBACTERIA. A obsolete family name of gram-negative, aerobic bacteria which derive energy from the oxidation of ammonia to nitrite or nitrite to nitrate. Its organisms are commonly found in soil and fresh water.
