Sterol Regulatory Element Binding Protein 1

Type

  • mesh:Descriptor

Definition

  • A sterol regulatory element binding protein that regulates expression of GENES involved in FATTY ACIDS metabolism and LIPOGENESIS. Two major isoforms of the protein exist due to ALTERNATIVE SPLICING. SREBP1-C is an isoform of sterol regulatory element binding protein 1 that is a weak activator of GENETIC TRANSCRIPTION. It is the predominant form in LIVER and ADIPOCYTES, and it mediates INSULIN induced FATTY ACIDS synthesis. SREBP1-A is an isoform of sterol regulatory element binding protein 1 that is a potent activator of GENETIC TRANSCRIPTION. It is the predominant form in SPLEEN.
