Definition
- Membrane-bound electron-dense organelles, 50–200 nm in size found in neurons and endocrine cells. Dense core vesicles package cargo molecules (NEUROPEPTIDES; NEUROTRANSMITTERS and MiRNAs) in a granular internal matrix. Neuronal dense core vesicles release their cargo content by EXOCYTOSIS.
