Cyclin-Dependent Kinase Inhibitor Proteins

Type

  • mesh:Descriptor

Definition

  • A group of cell cycle proteins that negatively regulate the activity of CYCLIN/CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE complexes. They inhibit CELL CYCLE progression and help control CELL PROLIFERATION following GENOTOXIC STRESS as well as during CELL DIFFERENTIATION. A family of cell cycle proteins containing ANKYRIN REPEATS that are specific inhibitors of cyclin D-dependent kinases. INK4 proteins bind to CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE 4 and CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE 6. They dissociate cyclin-CDK complexes and regulate a CELL CYCLE checkpoint in early G1 PHASE.
