Definition
- ERYTHROCYTE size and HEMOGLOBIN content or concentration, usually derived from ERYTHROCYTE COUNT; BLOOD hemoglobin concentration; and HEMATOCRIT. The indices include the mean corpuscular volume (MCV), the mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC). A measure of the variability in size of circulating ERYTHROCYTES. It is expressed as the coefficient of variation of the erythrocyte volume. MCH is the HEMOGLOBIN divided by the ERYTHROCYTE COUNT. MCHC equals HEMOGLOBIN divided by HEMATOCRIT. MCV equals HEMATOCRIT divided by ERYTHROCYTE COUNT.
