  • Isoforms of MYOSIN TYPE II, specifically found in the ventricular muscle of the HEART. Defects in the genes encoding ventricular myosins result in FAMILIAL HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY. A form of ventricular myosin that contains two alpha-myosin heavy chains. It has a higher ATPase activity and contracts at a faster rate than myosins containing beta-myosin heavy chains. A form of ventricular myosin that contains one alpha-myosin heavy chain and one beta-myosin heavy chain. It has an ATPase activity and contraction rate that is intermediate between ventricular alpha-myosin and ventricular beta-myosin. A form of ventricular myosin that contains two beta-myosin heavy chains. It has a lower ATPase activity and contracts at a slower rate than myosins containing alpha-myosin heavy chains.
