(from Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, 7th ed., 2005) Sudden suspension of cardiac activity that is usually due to ARRHYTHMIA, in contrast to heart attack (MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION) which occurs due to blockage.
