One of the two groups of coxsackieviruses. They contain several serotypes and are associated with epidemic pleurodynia (PLEURODYNIA, EPIDEMIC;) (B1, B3), myocarditis and endocarditis (B3, B1), respiratory disorders (B3, B5), and kidney, pancreas, and liver disorders. A group of enteroviruses isolated from man and originally thought not to be associated with disease, whence the name Enteric Cytopathic Human Orphan; however, several serotypes have been found to cause meningitis, diarrhea, and respiratory disease.
