Définition

  • A serine protease that is the complex of COMPLEMENT C3B and COMPLEMENT FACTOR BB. It cleaves multiple COMPLEMENT C3 into COMPLEMENT C3A (anaphylatoxin) and COMPLEMENT C3B in the ALTERNATIVE COMPLEMENT ACTIVATION PATHWAY. Cobra venom factor (CVF) is a COMPLEMENT C3B analog. With Bb, CVF forms the CVFBb complex, a COMPLEMENT C3 convertase with a half-life of 7 h at body temperature as compared to 1.5 min for the C3bBb complex. The cobra venom-derived enzyme causes continuous COMPLEMENT ACTIVATION and depletion of downstream complement components.
