  • Image processing is the processing of images using computer techniques. Data from the image are digitized, and mathematical operations are applied to the data, usually by a computer, to manipulate the imagery. The term covers a range of processes including enhancing images, emphasizing particular features, or storing the image digitally for later retrieval or transmission. Image processing is used routinely in many applications, for example to process image data received by remote sensors on board spacecraft and satellites.
