intergalactic absorption

Definición

  • Intergalactic absorption is the absorption of light from distant objects by material in intergalactic space. It is too feeble to notice in the case of nearby galaxies but gives rise to the Lyman-alpha forest of spectral lines superimposed on the spectra of quasars and other objects billions of light-years away.
