valvular heart disease
Definition
- The heart has four valves that regulate the blood flow through the upper (atria) and lower (ventricles) chambers of the heart, keeping the flow in one direction. Valvular heart disease occurs when one or more of these valves functions incorrectly, disrupting normal flow through the heart. [Source: Encyclopedia of Health & Aging; Valvular Heart Disease]
