- Rastafarianism or Rastafari is an Africa-centered religion in which the Emperor Haile Selassie (1892–1975) is revered as the black messiah. The religion draws its name from the emperor's precoronation name, Ras Tafara Makonnen. [Source: Encyclopedia of Black Studies; Rastafarianism]
