Concept information
Preferred term
culturalism
Definition
- Culturalism, which would ground explanations of political phenomena in cultures rather than in notions of structure or agency, is problematic because of the lack of consensus on how to define culture. Moreover, there is little agreement on the added value of culturalism: Whether culture is the main explanatory variable or a residual intervening factor is a cause of enduring debate among scholars.
