emergency public information

Definition

  • During a period of emergency, information must be disseminated to the public, both by broadcast when possible and in response to specific inquiries. Emergency management personnel have discovered on many occasions the verbosity of members of the public during a crisis, and inquiries are limited not simply to people trying to get information they need (about hazards, emergency procedures, closures, the fate of loved ones) but include people offering help, donations, advice, complaints, and commentary.
