- Demographic trends that emerged in the 20th century have resulted in a large increase in the numbers of individuals in the U.S. population from racial and ethnic minority groups. These demographic trends are projected to continue such that by the year 2100 non-Hispanic Whites are expected to comprise only 40% of the U.S. general population.
