- The Media Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was conceived in 1980, and formally established in 1985, by MIT professors Nicholas Negroponte and Jerome Wiesner. The Media Lab has become the prototype for media-oriented research laboratories at technical universities around the world.
