management of infectious diseases: warts
Definition
- Warts are small growths on the skin or mucosa caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). An estimated 20 million people in the United States are currently infected with HPV. The virus infects the top layer of skin, causing the skin to overgrow, producing small rough bumps, smooth flat areas, or wider patches of thickened skin with irregular edges.
