Fred Harris
Definition
- Fred Harris (1930–) was born in Walters, Oklahoma, and became highly active in Democratic Party politics as a prominent advocate of Native American rights. He served in the Oklahoma State Senate from 1956–1964, in the United States Senate from 1964–1972, and ran for president in 1972 and 1976 before leaving politics to join the political science department at the University of New Mexico.
