  • THE SYMBIONESE Liberation Army (SLA) began with Donald de Freeze, when he escaped from Soledad State Prison on March 5, 1973. De Freeze had been exposed to the progressive ideas of the Venceremos movement, whose name had been inspired by the hero of the Cuban revolution, the Argentine physician Ernesto “Che” Guevara.
