Latin Kings

Definition

  • Among the Latino gangs in the United States that are involved in street crimes, the Latin Kings has long been recognized as both one of the original such organizations and as one of the most violent. The Federal Bureau of Investigation noted in its 2000 “Safe Streets Violent Crime Initiative Report,” for example, that some 1,600 self-identified Latin Kings members were imprisoned in Illinois, and that they accounted for more than half of all the violent attacks on other prison inmates and prison guards in the state.
