  • Physical activity is defined as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that results in energy expenditure. Physical activity is a broad term that captures virtually every type of physically active behavior including competitive and recreational sports, active forms of transportation (e.g., cycling to work), leisure activities (e.g., hiking), occupational activities (e.g., firefighting), household chores (e.g., sweeping), and exercise.
