qui tam actions
Definition
- The words qui tam are the short form of a Latin phrase that, loosely translated, means “one who sues for the king as well as for himself.” Qui tam provisions derive from a 150-year-old law known as the False Claims Act (FCA). The FCA was passed to address military procurement fraud during the Civil War. [Source: Encyclopedia of Health Care Management; Qui Tam Actions]
