- Science and technology permeate every aspect of lives and drive economies worldwide. African American, Mexican American, Puerto Rican, and Native American/Alaskan Native/Native Hawaiians are underrepresented on college and university faculties in the sciences, defined as biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computer science; for the purposes of this analysis, the sciences do not include medicine, dentistry, or veterinary science.
