year-round schools

Definition

  • Year-round schooling is an educational reform effort that has made inroads into the traditional agrarian calendar but has not had the widespread implementation its advocates claim it deserves. Opponents argue that it is important to maintain 3 months in the summer free of schooling, to allow children and youths some respite from highly structured activities, to allow older students opportunities for summer employment, and in order to make sure family vacation schedules are not disrupted.
