- Domestic violence can be characterized by a variety of physical, social, sexual, economic, and psychological attacks against many groups, including current and former significant others, family members, and children. Even though domestic violence can cross socioeconomic, ethnic, and gender lines, most common and popular knowledge of domestic violence relates to female abuse perpetrated by men.
