  • Hierocratic political theory covers questions of papal sovereignty, the relationship between spiritual and temporal powers, and the legitimacy of absolutist papal monarchy. At their most extreme, hierocratic arguments give the pope supreme political and spiritual authority as God's direct representative on earth.
