  • Khalfan Khamis Mohamed was the first person convicted of a direct role in the August 7, 1998, bombing of the United States embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. On May 29, 2001, a federal jury in New York found him guilty of participating in the attack and of murdering the 11 people killed as a result of the explosion.
