- Malcolm X was an African American political leader whose dynamic speaking ability, keen intellect, and fiery persona catapulted him to the forefront of the Black Nationalist Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. In the early phase of his career, his analysis of the links between religion and racial oppression made him a lightning rod for controversy.
