- VISUAL PATHWAY AND hypothalamic glioma, often called optic pathway glioma, is a type of brain tumor that predominantly afflicts children. It accounts for approximately 5 percent of childhood brain tumors, and most patients are diagnosed before 10 years of age in the United States.
