- Pancreas transplantation is a surgical procedure whereby a pancreas is removed from a cadaveric donor and implanted into a recipient. Often, comorbidities require simultaneous pancreas/kidney transplantation; this procedure comprises 78 percent of all reported pancreas transplants performed in the United States between 1987 and 2002.
