- TAMOXIFEN IS AN oral selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that is used for the treatment of early and advanced breast cancer in pre-and postmenopausal women. Originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1977 for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, tamoxifen is now world's largest selling breast cancer treatment and has been described by the World Health Organization as an essential drug in cancer treatment.
