emotions: negative emotions and health

Definition

  • From Greek and Roman antiquity to modern times, the belief that emotions affect physical health has pervaded popular culture and scientific theory. Recent technological advances have helped elucidate the physiological correlates of negative emotions, and, in combination with a growing body of epidemiological research, suggest that the role of negative emotions in health is more than medical folklore.
