Definition

  • The past two decades have seen rapid growth both in the number of population-based surveys interviewing women about their experiences of male violence and in the sophistication of the methods used. To date, targeted surveys designed to assess the extent and nature of women's experiences of violence have been conducted in at least 70 countries worldwide.
