Definition
- When the French government announced in December 1978 that the steel industry would be downsized, costing 6,000 jobs especially in Lorraine in eastern France, the public locally in Longwy rapidly took action in the form of general strikes and demonstrations. Unexpectedly, the workers also initiated information media independent of the mainstream. [Source: Encyclopedia of Social Movement Media; Radio Lorraine Coeur d'Acier]
