teacher preparation for diversity in elementary education
Definition
- In a nation as culturally, racially, and linguistically varied as the United States, diversity in education cannot be mentioned without attending to how teachers should be prepared to respond effectively and appropriately to the many different children they will meet in their classrooms. Teacher preparation for diversity aims to equip new teachers with the content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and understandings they need to capably and equitably meet the academic and socioemotional needs of their diverse students to support their achievement and enhance their life chances.
