Definition
- The statistics division of the United Nations records an increase in the number of cross-border marriages of up to 300 percent since 2000 and has called for the harmonization of the rules of divorce. In order to limit the practice of forum shopping (rectius, malpractice) by spouses looking for the best jurisdiction or optimum law for their personal needs and to avoid the circumvention of the spouses' national law, various uniform conventions on divorce and separation have been adopted.
