  • Somatic control strategies refer to techniques one can use to manage aversive physiological symptoms that may interfere with functioning. Such physiological symptoms include shaking, trembling, hyperventilation, rapid heartbeat, muscle tension, and “butterflies” or nervousness in the stomach, among others.
