sex-role orientation

Definition

  • A person's sex-role orientation can be described as the extent to which he or she possesses characteristics of masculinity, femininity, or androgyny (and is separate from sexual orientation). Sex-role and gender-role are two terms that are often used interchangeably, although sex is traditionally reserved for the biological category of male and female and gender is more often used to refer to the societal expectations placed on men and women.
